Biography
Barbara,
Mary, Anne and Monica known as the Brennan sisters come from Maam Valley, situated in the heart of Connemara. The girls
come from a family steeped in traditional Music and Song. Both of their parents William and Nora are fine traditional
singers and have been the girl’s biggest influences down through the years.
All sisters have been singing from an early age and have worked individually
with other artists throughout the years but joined up together for a few shows with Steve Cooney and Arty McGlynn five
years ago. From then on, the Brennan Sisters continue to perform throughout Ireland, the UK and Europe.
On New Year’s Eve 2006, the sisters supported talented singer-songwriter
Declan O’Rourke in Vicar Street, Dublin. In 2006, The Brennan sisters were announced as special guests on Sharon Shannon’s
nationwide tour and recorded "Hand me down my bible" with Sharon Shannon and band for her DVD/CD "Live at Dolans".
They then went on to appear on Irish television programme "The Late late show" promoting the DVD/CD compilation.
One year later, the sisters went on to record another CD/DVD titled "The Voice Within" which was recorded live from
the INEC in Killarney. The show was backed by a 14-piece band and 70-voice choir. Shortly afterwards, the sisters appeared
on Irish television show "The Late late show" again. The Voice Within is the most expensive production ever
filmed in Ireland for broadcast on the American channel PBS. The sisters have worked and recorded, individually and
together with some of Irelands finest artists including Paul Brady, Sharon Shannon, Arty McGlynn, Mundy, Damien Dempsey, Declan
O’Rourke Gerry O Connor, Johnny McEvoy and Steve Cooney to name but a few.
Due to other commitments,
these days, The Brennan sisters don’t get to perform together as a group as much as they would like to. Monica and Anne
are focusing on their own music careers working together and individually. Anne Brennan has recently recorded and released
her debut solo album "Young Love" and younger sister Monica is also featured on the album incorporating beautiful
and intricate harmonies with a very distinctive but unmistakeable resonance. Paul Brady and Sharon Shannon are also featured
on the album which can be described as a traditional/folk compilation with a contemporary sound. Monica
recently performed at the historic Dublin Castle for the Irish Presidential Inauguration 2011 and is now following in the
footsteps of her sister and is currently recording and collecting material for her debut solo album. The Sisters are also
hoping to release an album together in the near future. Monica featured as a special guest on Sharon Sharon’s
Xmas tour 2011 alongside Kildare Singer/Songwriter Jack L. The sisters have developed their very own unique style of
performance, their natural harmonies add diversity to every show that they perform and their vocal ability continues to surprise
audiences everywhere.
